Carl M. Franklin was USC's vice president emeritus for financial affairs, chief legal officer and a law professor during a university career that spanned five decades. Franklin joined the faculty of the USC Gould School of Law in 1953, became the university's vice president for financial affairs in 1960, and was appointed vice president for financial and legal affairs in 1970. After being named vice president emeritus in 1991, at age 80, he continued working until his death in September 2004, raising about $4 million per year for USC. Over the years, Franklin and his wife, Carolyn, raised more than $150 million for chairs, professorships, scholarships, buildings and equipment in many schools and departments at the University of Southern California. Franklin was interviewed by Paul Hadley in 1990 as part of the USC Emeriti Center's H. Dale Hilton Living History Project.
