I have always known that the UW in Seattle is a great school, but now I am starting to wonder whether it might also be the best school within 800 miles. Okay, so to the west, there is nothing but the Pacific Ocean. The north has Western Washington University and the University of British Columbia; the former is just not as good, and the latter is Canadian. The east has Idaho and Montana (nothing really good there). 800 miles southeast of Seattle include the sparsely-populated states of Wyoming, Nevada, and Utah (I doubt there's anything there that great except maybe Brigham Young University if you're Mormon). The south has UC Berkeley (but that's 808 miles south of Seattle), and Stanford (which is 40 miles south of Berkeley). Everything else is in Southern California. So Berkeley and Stanford lie outside the 800-mile radius of Seattle. Did I miss anything? Would I be correct in saying that UW is really the best school within 800 miles of Seattle?... Read More »
